Alternating chapters from two authors that sound way too similar. Field agents for rival civilizations bop in and out of time to work their intricate operations, but mostly to leave each other love notes. Felt... more generic than I expected? I think I was looking for slightly more world building than 'c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate' references without any more context.
