Somebody at a party recommended this, and I've known that the author runs the Scifi program here at the University of Kansas. But it was great! Really fun fantasy novella, richly imagined, and with the same kind of measured, calm voice like you get in Le Guin's Earthsea novels. I know this is a riff on a Lovecraft short story, but I've never read (or don't remember) the story, so whatever resonance is here is lost on me. But I loved it anyway.
