The Beetle

Notes

This is 'a forgotten masterpiece of victorian horror', published in the same year Dracula was, but more popular at the time. It's pretty pulpy, and I can see why it hasn't had the same lasting impact. The monster is a devotee of Isis who can turn into a large beetle - the size of a cat - and hypnotize people. But it/they don't really cause much trouble, just really, really spook people.
