A fantasy novel! A Brandon Sanderson! Not my usual oeuvre here, but recommended by a friend who reads a lot of Sanderson, and I asked where I should start.
It's his first novel, and I can't tell if he got better as he went, or if my standards fell? At the beginning I found the world-building pretty tiresome, although it's got a ~generally~ interesting conceit, and the characters all boring and one-dimensional. But by the end, I was ~genuinely~ interested, and the characters surprised me! Not bad really!
